Nyerere National Park

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Nyerere National Park (previously the Selous Game Reserve) stands as a testament to Tanzania’s commitment to conservation. This vast wilderness, the largest single national park in Africa, sprawls across southern Tanzania and is often included on Southern Circuit safaris. Nyerere’s size, four times that of the Serengeti, allows it to support some of the continent’s most significant wildlife populations. It’s a stronghold for elephants, buffalo, and numerous plains game species, as well as a haven for hippos, crocodiles, zebras, giraffes, and the endangered African wild dog. Birders will be enthralled by the park’s avian diversity, with close to 450 species recorded.
